COMPASS (Community Partners with Schools) is a network of community school teams across Simcoe County that link schools (elementary and secondary) with local providers of community supports and services including child and youth mental health, parenting supports, child protection, health, youth justice, community recreation and more.

COMPASS teams help schools enhance student learning, support healthy child/youth development and reduce social, emotional or behavioural challenges within schools.

Elementary and secondary school principals, school staff and/or board personnel share issues of concern and best practices in their school communities at COMPASS meetings. Similarly, community partners seek and share best practice information/resources and concerns related to the children, youth and families they service and seek support to address. All partners then work together to look at collaboratively responding to identified issues. Such issues can include:

  • a broad school community need (e.g. bullying, substance abuse, parenting supports, school transitioning)
  • support or resources needed for a student (confidentiality is maintained) or classroom

There are eight COMPASS Community School Teams across Simcoe County: Angus, Barrie, Bradford, Georgian West, North Simcoe, Orillia, South West Simcoe and a Francophone COMPASS serving Simcoe County.

Please contact the Coalition if you would like more information or to be connected to your local COMPASS team.
